Dead Space 2 Severed is a good expansion for people who just want more Dead Space or fans of Dead Space Extraction. Severed follows Gabe Weller, an Isihmura security officer featured in Extraction, as he tries to save his wife from the latest necromorph outbreak on the Sprawl.
Severed takes place at the same time as Isaac's campaign and visits two areas featured there as well. There are some new segments, but otherwise these areas are unchanged. What is cool, is seeing your impact on the area Isaac visits later in the game, as well as seeing the results of Isaac's escapades. Obviously there is new voice acting and it is on par with the excellent level of quality expected from the first two games.
While Severed tells a good story, it is very short at only two chapters. Some may find that hard to swallow with the $6.99 or 560MS price point attached to it. Anyone who wants more to do on the Sprawl will find enjoyment, and hey a good single player DLC is better than character skins or map packs. Hopefully Visceral is planning more side adventures like this and the next release will be even better. Until then, Severed will do.
